FAST Light is a series of events and installations that highlight MIT’s leadership in energy-efficient technologies while demonstrating how technology, invention and fantasy can transform the physical environment in thought-provoking, breathtaking ways. From February – May, a growing collection of architectural pavilions, sculpturalinstallations, and artworks incorporating sound, light and innovation will spring up throughout the campus – inside and out.
FAST Light will shimmer on the waterfront of MIT’s campus on the evening of May 7th. A night of kinetic illumination kicks off with the launch of Otto Piene’s SKY Event, when a group of students and alumni fly a large-scale, brightly lit star over Killian Court. From dusk until dark, FAST Light will glow along the Charles River waterfront and on MIT’s campus.
And on May 13-15, the entire FAST festival will wrap up with a stunning multimedia performance work–Jay Scheib’s Bellona, Destroyer of Cities–at Boston’s Institute of Contemporary Art. This production is presented as part of Emerging America, the second annual theater festival, co-presented with American Repertory Theater and the Huntington Theatre Company, launching the new American voices of tomorrow.
These events and installations, created by MIT faculty and students, will transform the way MIT people experience their familiar surroundings and introduce visitors to the creative culture arising from the synergy of art, science and technology.
